Superannuation is a tax effective way for members to accumulate wealth as superannuation funds receive a concession from the Federal Government on contributions and earnings, thus allowing the superannuation fund to accumulate additional funds for distribution to a participating member on their retirement from the work force.

Employers must contribute to a fund on behalf of employees and self-employed persons receive an income tax deduction on their personal contributions. A member may also contribute to a fund on behalf of his or her spouse.

During ones working life the majority of people have several or more employers who pay compulsory superannuation contributions on their behalf. However, when they leave these employers their superannuation often remains in that employer's superannuation fund or is rolled over into an eligible rollover fund... and sometimes they lose track of it.

BIG understands how hard it is to keep track of multiple superannuation funds, and how difficult it may be to track down "lost" entitlements. Therefore, to assist members locate their lost superannuation a search of the Australian Taxation Office's (ATO) Lost Member Register can be made.
